Baron Walter Louis Davis (born April 13, 1979, in Los Angeles, California) is an American professional basketball player currently starting at point guard for the NBA’s Golden State Warriors. Davis became a star at Crossroads School and UCLA. Davis was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets as the number three pick in the 1999 NBA Draft.

Davis’s grandmother and guardian, Lela Nicholson, was instrumental in pushing him to play basketball. With her encouragement, he eventually earned a basketball scholarship to play at Crossroads School, a prestigious private school in Santa Monica, California, where he rubbed elbows with the children of some of California’s elite (his classmate was actress Kate Hudson).

Before being sentenced to 30 years in prison, Robert Carter told a judge yesterday that he wanted to die the day he blitzed Omaha with 3 robberies and a 100 mph police chase that ended with Carter plunging into a lagoon and five bullets plunging into him.

“I know God must have some kind of plan for me,” Carter said. “I’m still alive.”

His arms folded in handcuffs in his lap, the diminutive 45-year-old could not have been more docile — as Douglas County District Court Judge Mark Ashford told him the sentence probably would mean that the 15-time felon, with no shot at parole, will die in prison.

It was a stark contrast to the fury that Carter unleashed on Nov. 29, 2006, when he committed three robberies in 14 minutes and led police on a chase and shootout through Omaha, Council Bluffs and Carter Lake, Iowa.

Omaha police cruiser camera video, shows Carter plows the Blazer through park grass to try to ditch his pursuers.
But the Blazer, its back end fishtailing, ramps off of the railroad tracks and comes to rest in tall grass.

The video then shows Carter bail out of the Blazer and, shotgun in hand, face Martinez.

Martinez yanks his cruiser to the right — crashing through a thicket of trees and into the lagoon.

Ten seconds pass. Police fire at least 26 times. They say later that Carter continued to aim his gun at them.

Martinez makes one last radio call, just seconds before 11 a.m.: “Send us a squad. Party’s been shot. We’re in the water.”

It crescendos with the back window of Carter’s stolen Chevy Blazer shattering as Carter opens fire on the officer behind him.
And it ends in the lagoon, with the sound of a hail of gunshots.

Carter said the crime spree was fueled by a monthlong binge of meth and cocaine use — a month in which he claims he didn’t sleep.
